Day 144: LA LA Land

We had an otterly enjoyable morning. Up at the crack of dawn to repack and reshuffle all of our belongings, we were all but ready to go before heading to the lobby to grab one last lacklustre ‘continental’ breakfast consisting of toast and an unnamed unidentified sugary cereal. Anything that tastes purely of sugar and turns your milk green cannot be called food.

Having missed our chance to explore the bay last night we wandered down to the pier to be greeted by a chorus of seagulls and sealions. As we were turning to leave we were also treated to the site of a pair of otters trying to break open their breakfast.

After preparing Phoebe for our impending departmenture we hit the road one last time, catching a few more glimpses of the Pacific as we headed for Southern California.

Once again Google played tricks on us – sent us on the back roads through the hills, but did leave us with a nice view down on Santa Barbara. Enroute we had an emergency nature break at a recreation  area in the middle of yet another scorched patch of Californian countryside, before seeing dolphins playing along the coast line. As LA beckoned the traffic built into five lanes of bumper to bumper stop-start traffic, giving us plenty of time to take in the thick layer of filthy smog sitting over the city.

With the beautiful clear blue sky stained by the smear across, it made us wish the breathless sky was a mite breezier.

After what seemed like an eternity later we parted ways with Phoebe, an easier farewell than parting with young Joyce, and embarked on an unnecessarily long and horrendously bumpy bus to Hollywood. A short walk later with all our worldly possessions in tow, arms and backs aching, we made it to our hotel just after dark.

After a celebratory wine we headed out in to the night to see what Hollywood would throw at us, and hoped for another 36° day tomorrow so we could head to the beach.  Day One Hundred and Forty Four Stats:
